The Bronx Council on the Arts celebrates its 50th Anniversary with a limber summer season full of free, fun, interactive, and new projects and partnerships for public engagement. Focusing on BCA’s own unique brand of programming, professional development, and opportunities, It’s ELASTIC! showcases Bronx artists and ideas at BCA’s future home at 2700 East Tremont Avenue, Longwood Art Gallery @ Hostos, Bronx Terminal Market, Poe Park Visitors Center, and other vibrant sites throughout the Bronx--going beyond the white cube and black box to feature creative resilience.

Longwood Art Gallery @ Hostos and nearby 149th Street and Grand Concourse area. As a short-term residency, Segarra will use Longwood Art Gallery @ Hostos for open rehearsals for a work utilizing a 3’ x 8’ wooden platform that will be taken outdoors for improvised performances.

Pepatián is a South Bronx-based organization dedicated to creating, producing and supporting contemporary multi-disciplinary art by Latino and Bronx-based artists.

Art in Odd Places 2012: Bronx

In anticipation of the 100+ artists participating in this year’s Art in Odd Places 2012: MODEL festival in October in Manhattan, BCA partners with AiOP to highlight two days of rehearsal performances and experimental projects in the Bronx with a select group of artists based in the borough.

AiOP’s mission is to stretch the boundaries of communication in the public realm by presenting artworks in all disciplines outside the confines of traditional public space regulations. SPARC artist Sharbaan presents her video on the workshops on painting jewelry and masks that she conducted with participants at the Sister Annunciata Bethel Senior Center.

SPARC is a collaboration among the New York City Department of Cultural Affairs, the Department for the Aging and the City's five local arts councils situated in each borough – Brooklyn Arts Council, Bronx Council on the Arts, Council on the Arts and Humanities of Staten Island, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council and Queens Council on the Arts. It was developed as part of Age-Friendly NYC, a citywide effort to make the City more livable for seniors, and previously ran as a successful pilot called Space for Art. The program is supported, in part, by funding from the National Endowment for the Arts.
