AERIAL SURVEYS

Due to weather conditions, the Department of Parks & Recreation (DPR) and an independent contractor may continue to conduct an aerial survey of the deer population over various parks on Staten Island and in The Bronx Today, 2/11 and Wednesday, 2/12 at 6 PM,

These include Pelham Bay, Van Cortlandt, Riverdale, Bronx River, Fresh Kills, Sawmill Creek, Sweetbay Magnolia Preserve, Clove Lakes, Ocean Breeze, Mariners Marsh, Wolfes Pond, Great Kills, Greenbelt, Blue Heron, Long Pond, Arden Heights, and Conference House.

The survey will consist of one single-engine aircraft utilizing an infrared camera to measure the temperature difference between the deer and the surrounding environment. The aircraft will originate from and return to Linden Airport in NJ, and will conduct the survey at an altitude of approximately 1,000 feet, traveling from the eastern portion of the borough westbound.
