American Legion Lifetime Achievement Award

The City Island Leonard Hawkins American Legion Post held their annual Clam Bake this weekend. Although all tickets were sold out before the event, the group literally baked in the asphalt paved parking lot of their City Island Avenue headquarters.

Kudos to 88 year old Sargent Emeritus Russell Schaller, who was recognized with a Lifetime Achievement Award by The City Island American Legion. He is seen standing behind and holding his distinguished award. Thanks to photojournalist Cathy Mazzaro for providing these City Island Images.

Russel Schaller has been a legion member in good standing for over 50 years. Mr. Schaller, who is also a journalist and cartoonist, tells us that he is writing a feature story about one of his WWII colleagues, decorated pilot Lenny Gold.

Leonard Hawkins American Legion Post in Bronx, NY is a private company categorized under Veterans' and Military Organizations. Records show that it was established in 1948 and incorporated in New York.
