Anne Hutchinson & New Netherland Talk at St. Paul's Church
St. Paul's Church, 897 S. Columbus Ave., Mount Vernon, Saturday, Aug. 11 at 1P
Dr. Evan P. Haefeli, professor of history at Columbia University, explores the interface between the bold Puritan exile Anne Hutchinson, the local Lenape Indians and the Dutch colony of New Netherland, near St. Paul’s Church in the 1640s, spotlighting an exhibition currently on display at St. Paul’s. Haefeli’s presentation examines Hutchinson’s story in the context of the theme of religious tolerance in New Netherland, which is covered in his forthcoming book, New Netherland and the Origins of American Religious Liberty. Tours of the historic church and cemetery at St. Paul’s follow the talk. Free.
