BRONX COLUMBUS DAY PARADE

Submitted by ub on

The weather was sunny and bright for today's Columbus Day Parade in The Bronx. Unfortunately NYC Mayor Bloomberg was a no show, but our local area representatives and elected officials addressed the crowd, including NY Senator Jeff Klien, Councilman Jimmy Vacca and many other public officials, including US Congressman Joe Crowley were there. In fact they were giving away Congressman Crowley T-shirts, which were made not in USA, but in Nicaragua.

Parade chairman Tony Singorile (photographed in a blue shirt and sports jacket) preformed splendidly, according to everyone City Island Images spoke with. All agreed that not only were Italian-Americans delighted, but a diverse group of individuals also enjoyed this year's Columbus Day festivities, which pays tribute to Christopher Columbus, but to Italian Americans everywhere.

The Honorary Grand Marshall was Brandon Muccino, assistant principal for PS 83. Miss Columbus is is Loredana Calce, who received a $10,000 scholarship from Generoso Pope Foundation. Marching today was Dr. Domenico Mignone, MD, President of the not-for-profit Italian Hospital Society, along with the lovely and talented Contessa, Aurora de Petris Fraggianni.
