“HISTORIC ST. MARY'S PARK AND ITS NEIGHBORHOODS" WALKING TOUR

Saturday, August 31, 2013, 11:00 AM

The area where St. Mary’s Park is located has roots deep in Bronx history. The park was one of six original Bronx parks, although it is considered a city park, being that it was laid out in the most populated part of the South Bronx at the time. BCHS Educator Angel Hernandez will guide a tour through the area, highlighting locations of lost landmarks such as the Janes & Kirtland Iron Works, Bensonia Cemetery, and the original Lebanon Hospital. The tour will commence on the northbound side of the Jackson Avenue train station on the Wakefield Line #2 or Dyer Avenue line #5 trains. The #4 bus also brings you to the location.

Tour costs $10 for BCHS members, $15 for non-members. Please make reservations by contacting The Society at (718) 881-8900 to reserve your spot. The tours generally run for 90 minutes.
