CITY ISLAND Memorial Day Parade

Submitted by ub on

It was a hot day on City Island as locals paid tribute to our nation's veterans, members of the military, past and present with solemn services and a small parade down City Island Avenue.

Several New York politicians joined past, present and future community leaders on the parade route along with members of the US Marines and Navy, City Island Little League, Theater Group and Boys and Girl Scouts, as well as assorted community groups, including parade organizers The American Legion and many of their officials.

This year's Memorial Day parade featured bagpipes and a local high school marching band. It then concluded at Leonard Hawkins Post at 550 City Island Avenue, where participants were treated to food and refreshments.

City Island Images transmitted the entire Memorial Day Parade live on the internet.

Riding in the front of the red convertible are Jacki K, Broker and Retired Sgt. Russ S.
They are two of the most popular senior citizens on City Island and long time "Bosom Buddies".

Unfortunately, the greatest generation is fading away at a rate of 740 per day.
Follow their simple rules:
Don’t make things complicated..
Take responsibility for your life..
Work hard and love loyally...
Be frugal and humble...
Embrace challenges...
AMEN
