US Rep. Joe Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx) says he had the honor of introducing Queens native and renowned singer-songwriter Melanie Safka before her performance at the American Society of Composers, Authors, and Publishers annual “We Write the Songs” event. Melanie Safka grew up in the Astoria section of Queens and attended New York’s American Academy of Dramatic Arts.
“Not only is Melanie Safka a talented and accomplished singer-songwriter, she is also a product of Queens. From performing at the legendary 1969 Woodstock Festival to writing and performing multiple chart-topping hits, Melanie’s talent is nothing short of amazing. I was honored to introduce Melanie and celebrate her many contributions to music,” said Rep. Crowley, who serves as Chair of the Congressional Musicians Caucus.
