CORRECTIONS OFFICER SHOT

As it turns out, no crime ever occurred, but NYPD Captain Russel Green arrived late at tonight's 45th precinct community council meeting because of an unfortunate accident.

Captain Green tells City Island Images that a NYC corrections officer accidentally shot herself in the leg during target practice at the NYPD shooting range. The NYPD Rodman's Neck Firing Range is a 54 Acre police training facility operated by Firearms and Tactics Section on Rodman's Neck, just adjacent to City Island. The shooting range is used for handgun and rifle practice for qualification by the NYPD, FBI, New York City Department of Corrections and to train probationary police officers, as well as for anti-terrorist, Emergency Service training. The base has 7 rifle ranges with a 230 total firing points for trainees.

The female officer, whose name was not released, was taken to a nearby hospital for treatment emergency first aid treatment.
