Eat & Run — all the way around New York.

Scott Jurek, star of the bestseller Born to Run, will celebrate the release of his new memoir, Eat & Run, by running all 31 miles around Manhattan in just 5 hours.

The public is invited to join Scott along the way for a few miles or more. Pace will be about 9:30 minute per mile.

Jurek will begin the run on June 5, 2012 at 5 a.m., and finish it by arriving in time for noon talk at Bryant Park. Joining Jurek for portions of this epic run will be friends and admirers like:

*Christopher McDougall, author of Born to Run

*Peter Sarsgaard, actor and director of the Born to Run movie

Jurek writes:

“There is something simple and pure about doing a loop run and the historic beauty of Manhattan beckons even a lover of mountain trails like myself. The Manhattan perimeter run makes for a perfect ultramarathon, just a shy over 50K (31 miles), one of the standard ultramarathon distances in ultramarathoning. So much running history has been made on the streets of New York City and I am excited to soak in more of that and share it with others. Ted Corbitt was a New York City and international running icon who has been called “the father of long distance running.” He was an ultramathon pioneer, American record holder, Olympian, president and co-founder of NYRR club. Ted was a role model for African Americans at a time when equality in sport was in its infancy. I will be running in memory of the late Corbitt and my good friend Micah True, “Caballo Blanco” of Born To Run who reminded me to derive strength from those who ran before us.”
