With all the talk about the proverbial fiscal cliff, we may have forgotten that the Mayan Calendar predicts a major date is quickly approaching.

But hurry, because doomsday prophecies are around us as Dec. 21 quickly comes closer. The Mayans and Hopi Indians recognize that we are approaching the end of a World Age. Hopi and Mayan elders do not prophesy that everything will come to an end. Rather, this is a time of transition from one World Age into another. The message they give concerns our making a choice of how we enter the future ahead, not how we party on our final days.

Modern society has a limited view of the Mayan civilization. In fact, during the 5th to 9th centuries AD, Mayan cities would be among the greatest and developed the most advanced mathematics and astronomy for that time. And even if this civilization hardly survived the later contact with Europeans settlers they were the carriers of an irreplaceable part of the global human consciousness.

If it's true that the end of the world is approaching, there's no better way to focus your feasting with friends with frivolity by exhausting your final wishes.

Here are some suggestions for you: That fabulous meal of a lifetime, Maxing out all your credit cards, Living it up like a celebrity or finally having that overdue and long-postponed wedding. Beware of becoming too full, very drunk and extremely depressed. A word to the wise is sufficient.

Finally, you better watch out, better not cry... Santa Claus is coming to town.
