VP, Kate Shackford and Michael Nixon, Credit Analyst of the Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation have received certification as Economic Development Finance Professionals (EDFP) from the National Development Council (NDC).

EDFP Certification is a professional credential given to individuals who successfully complete NDC’s intensive economic development finance training series. The training provides individuals working in the field of economic development with instruction in business credit analysis, real estate financing, loan packaging, deal structuring and negotiating, as well as the creation and implementation of development programs.

Each of the four EDFP Certification Program courses were five days in length and concluded with an exam. Upon successful completion of all four courses, the candidate was awarded EDFP Certification.

The National Development Council was established in 1969 and is a non-profit organization specializing in economic and housing development training and technical assistance for community development. NDC has provided training to over 60,000 professionals working in the fields of economic and housing development. Participants come from diverse backgrounds including city and state governments, public agencies, community-based organizations, professional organizations and banks.

The Bronx Overall Economic Development Corporation is the economic development arm of the Bronx Borough President. It provides financing and technical support to the Bronx’s businesses. It also provides incentives to attract other businesses into the area. In the past two years, BOEDC and its subsidiary, BIC, has leveraged over 30 million dollars in loans to local businesses to purchase commercial real estate, finance build out or purchase commercial equipment.

Ms. Shackford will be able to use her new skills in the further development of projects that will benefit the environment. The Bronx has the highest asthma rate and many of the programs under her division deal with financing and real estate. Mr. Nixon will utilize these skills to analyze real estate financing applications received by BOEDC.
