With a vote of 62-to-36, US Senators have finally gotten around to vote on and approve a $50.5 billion aid package for the residents of Northeastern states, who were victims of Hurricane Sandy. It took this body three months to get around to doing what should have been done much earlier. Super-storm Sandy made landfall near Atlantic City. N.J. three months ago.
The Super-storm killed more than 100 individuals in 10 states. It took the lives of 41 in New York City alone and wiped out coastal communities in New York and New Jersey. It also paralyzed mass transit systems and left tens of thousands homeless. Power outages affected more than 8 million homes.
This long awaited vote means Congress has finally approved $60.2 billion in aid for Sandy victims. The question local voters should be asking their elected politicians is - How did you allow this to dag on for so long?
The bill now goes to President Obama for his signature, so presumable this long nightmare and the frustration of waiting in finally over!
