GREEN HAWAII

Submitted by ub on

The gorgeous state of Hawaii is about to become the first of these great United State of America to actually ban plastic bags at checkouts in every one of their stores.

Scientific studies indicate that single-use plastic bags represent a huge threat to the environment. This threat is not only related to the sheer volume of them ending up as garbage floating in our waters.

This environmentally friendly bill makes Hawaii the only state where every county has this plastic bag legislation.

This long awaited change takes effect on July 15, 2015, giving retailers time to make the necessary preparations.

Bans are already enforced in Kauai, Maui and in Hawaii County the ban takes effect on Jan. 16, 2013.

This welcomed news comes on the heels of a report from the Scripps Institution of Oceanography documenting a shocking increase in plastic waste floating in the northeast Pacific Ocean.
