NYC Council Member James Vacca and NY Assemblyman Mark Gjonaj, gathered on Mother Teresa Way today in support of a food drive, which was donated by community residents as part of a Day of Service to marking the 103rd birthday of Mother Teresa.

The Blessed Teresa of Calcutta, known as Mother Teresa (26 August 1910 – 5 September 1997). She was an Albanian born, Indian Roman Catholic Religious Sister, who is being cannonized.

They were joined at “Mother Teresa Way” (at the intersection of Lydig Avenue and Holland Avenue) by members of the Albanian American Society Foundation, which collaborated in the project. The donated food is being delivered by members of the Vacca Volunteer Corps to the food pantry at the Jewish Community Council of Pelham Parkway.

The two elected leaders thanked all those who came out in support of the annual food drive in honor of Mother Teresa's birthday!

They were able to collect hundreds of dollars' worth of food and donate it to the Bronx Jewish Community Council food pantry.
