Hiring Teachers and First Responders

Submitted by ub on

Today @ 11:00A, Rep. Joe Crowley (D-Queens, the Bronx) and NY State Senator Tony Avella, Assemblyman Michael Simanowitz, Steve Cassidy, President, Uniformed Firefighters Association, Capt. Alexander Hagan, President, Uniformed Fire Officers Association, Bob Astrowsky, Assistant Secretary, United Federation of Teachers, Detective. Michael Palladino, President, Detectives’ Endowment Association and other local leaders announced a new effort to protect and create thousands of jobs for teachers, firefighters and police officers.

This is necessary because nationwide, many state and local budget cuts have eliminated hundreds of thousands of education jobs and have forced thousands of cops and firefighters off the beat.

US Congressman Crowley’s bill, the Teachers and First Responders Back to Work Act, authorizes $70 billion in federal funding nationwide to help states and local governments save or create thousands of jobs for teachers and first responders.
