ARTFLOCK.ORG: artflock.org is a new listing website of professional development opportunities, workshops, and lectures for artists in the New York City area. The website features a comprehensive calendar of professional development events searchable by organization, topic, or date. artflock is a core project of the Alliance for Sustainable Arts Professional Practices (ASAPP). ASAPP is a coalition of not-for-profit arts organizations and arts-related businesses dedicated to sharing professional development opportunities and best practice resources with artists in the New York City area. ASAPP members include A.I.R. Gallery, ALJIRA, apexart, ARTISIN, LLC, Bronx Council on the Arts, Brooklyn Art Space, Brooklyn Arts Council, Center for Book Arts, Creative Capital, Council on the Arts and Humanities for Staten Island, CUE Art Foundation, Culture Push, Dieu Donné, Elizabeth Foundation for the Arts, Harlem Arts Alliance, Laundromat Project, Long Island Arts Council at Freeport, Lower Manhattan Cultural Council, New York Foundation for the Arts, Northern Manhattan Arts Alliance, NURTUREart, Parsons - The New School for Design, Pratt Institute, Queens Council on the Arts, the Urban Artists Initiative, Utrecht Art Supplies. CHICAGO ARTISTS RESOURCE (CAR) WEBSITE: Chicago Artists Resource (CAR) (Chicago, IL) website features thousands of links to opportunities, tools, resources and articles, including Square Feet Chicago, a comprehensive guide to buying and leasing space, and a series of articles on health and materials. CAR also solicits the participation of artists and organizations through opportunities to post their own work, jobs, forums, calls, announcements and “artist stories.” Geared primarily towards Chicago artists, much of the site’s content is also invaluable to artists regardless of where they are based. LEE & LOW BOOKSis a quality children's book publisher that specializes in multicultural themes. Our goal is to meet the need for books that address children of color by providing books that all children can enjoy and which promote a greater understanding of one another. MTA ARTS FOR TRANSITt commissions artists through a competitive selection process to create original, site-specific permanent artwork for rehabilitated stations. MTA Arts for Transits issues Calls For Artists to solicit artist interest for specific commissions. The selection panel is comprised of five voting panelists: two representatives from neighboring museums and cultural institutions, one artist, an Arts for Transit representative, and the project architect. Community representatives are also invited to participate in an advisory capacity. The panel meets twice, first to review submissions and select finalists and again to review final proposals and select the artist to be commissioned. PERCENT FOR ART: Image Registry is consulted by architects, panelists, and City agencies for each project. Staff prepares a slide presentation from the registry for each panel meeting.
