METRO NORTH CRASH

Submitted by Admin on

A Metro-north train derailment and collision during this evening's rush hour injured approximately 60 people and five of the injuries are life-threatening.

Fairfield Police Department officials say one train sideswiped the other after derailing, causing some cars of the second train to also go off the tracks at Fairfield, CT.

The crash happened after 6 p.m. and involved a train coming from Manhattan's Grand Central Terminal and a second train heading into New York City.

Photos taken by passengers in the affected trains and posted on Twitter indicated broken windows and twisted metal, splintered tracks, and the front left corner of one of the trains smashed in.

Officials say Amtrak has halted service between New York and Boston indefinitely.
