NYC ACTIVISTS PROTEST

In Union Square, more than a thousand people rallied in an event called "SlutWalk" to call attention to sexual violence against women.

The Brooklyn Bridge location attracted two marches. One demonstration came from Brooklyn to Manhattan by a group opposed to genetically modified foods, and another in the other direction against poverty.

An anti-poverty march was organized by the United Way. Thousands walked to a square in downtown Brooklyn to raise money for charity, and call attention to the city's high poverty rate. The event ended with a festival where people could volunteer with area nonprofit groups.

Finally, near Wall Street, a group has also been camping out inside a park for two weeks protesting economic disparity along with corporate influence.
