NYC bill would give New Yorkers the power to see whether their next-door neighbor ever had a criminal past.
NYC Councilman Peter Vallone will introduce legislation to place the NYPD's gun offender registry online. The database will keep track of those convicted of certain gun crimes.
If you ever wondered is your neighbor was acting like a criminal, now you will be able to learn if they have ever been arrested and how many times.
The registry is currently only accessible to NYPD members. If the bill is passed, it will force convicts register their address and update information for the first four years after they are released from prison.
Vallone chairs the public safety committee and is also running for Queens borough president. He is introducing another bill that would call on the state to create its own version of that registry.
