New York City's top four historic sites are the proud winners of an online competition for grants of up to $250,000.

The Brooklyn Public Library, Congregation Beth Elohim in Park Slope, NY Botanical Gardens and Bartow-Pell Mansion were all named winners of the Partners in Preservation Grant.

Ellen Bruzelius, Executive Director of Bartow-Pell Mansion tells City Island Images that she is very excited and now looks forward to beginning that long awauted garden renovation project.

For several weeks, voters went online to choose the historic places they felt were most important to them and Bartow-Pell Mansion, as well as NY Botanical Gardens were the top Bronx locations.

This was the very first NY citywide preservation effort powered by social media and those who knew what they were doing and how to get the vote out were ultimately victorious.

There are $3 million up for grabs, so there are still other sites which could see some of this grant money.

With roughly one million dollars up for distribution to these four sites, there is going to be two million dollars that will be distributed. Next, there will be a meeting on June 12th to make their final decisions.

The winners chosen by the advisory committee will be announced on Wednesday, June 13, 2012.
