RIP ~ CAPTAIN ED SADLER 1916-2011

He was the longest living resident of City Island and our most senior clam digger. He was and will always remain in my memory as a proud father, an even prouder grandfather and the proudest great grandfather ever, as well as my oldest and wisest friend.

City Island lost an old angel at 7:30 this morning, while the heavens have now claimed a new one.

Rest in peace, Captain Ed Sadler. (1916 - 2011), who served on a fire-boat for 35 years. He died on the island, in same room he was born in, 95 years ago. If sadness could build a stairway to heaven and laughter fast a lane, I'd make a quick trip to heaven and bring you back to City Island once again.

Captain Ed Sadler is survived by his only living daughter Jean, who was kind enough to call me and share the news of Ed's passing and by his two sons Ed and Dick, who took this wonderful photograph during one of our many visits together.
