RIP Jay Howard

It was standing room only for Jay Howard's City Island memorial service at Trinity Church. The 76-year-old may have lost his battle with cancer, but he will not be forgotten. Our thoughts and prayers go to his widow, Norma and all the members of his extended family.

Jay Howard loved angels and he really was a guardian angel in City Island according to those who spoke and echoed these sentiments saying City Island will never be the same, or Jay was a rock for our community center, Trinity church and so much more.

He was an experienced sailor who knew how to avoid the rocks around City Island but learned to embrace the living rock of God the Almighty.

Longtime City Islander and photographer Ron Terner, who took this photo of jay and promised Jay that he would say a few words, he lived up to his pledge. Ron told the crowd that Jay looked after him from the time he set up shop on the island and went on to explain how Jay told him he had a short time to live. Ron said Jay explained to him that his doctor broke the bad news and then asked him if he wanted a flu shot?

The hour and a half service included two of the many songs which were sung by hundreds attending the ceremony. They were https://youtu.be/e0TInLOJuUM and Jay's celebration of life ended with https://youtu.be/CDdvReNKKuk
