Robert Branizza - avid golfer, dedicated gardener, World War II veteran, and beloved family man – died June 22, 2013 of natural causes at the Veterans Administration facility located in Montrose, NY.

The only child of Robert and Alba Branizza, Robert moved to the states when he was two years old and lived on City Island nearly his entire life. Robert raised a family with his wife Donna who passed away in 1991 and is survived by his loving son Robert, Jr, his devoted daughter Jean and his son-in-law Larry.

Robert Branizza joined the Army Air Corps shortly after graduating from high school and while performing duties as a navigator Branizza's plane was shot down on June 21, 31944 during a bombing mission over Berlin. The only survivor of his crew, Branizza also survived 11 months in a German prisoner of war camp.

After the war, Robert Branizza graduated from New York University with a civil engineering degree and worked for AT&T his entire career. A devout Catholic, Branizza was very active at St. Mary's Star of The Sea, where he served as an usher for over 50 years.

A wake will be held at Lloyd Maxcy & Sons in New Rochelle on Sunday, June 23, between 2-6pm. The family requests, in lieu of flowers, memorial donations be made to Wounded Warriors. www.woundedwarriorproject.org

Mass will take place at 10:00am Monday June 24 at St. Mary's Star of The Sea.
