TURNINGPOINT IN EGYPT

Submitted by ub on

The increasing crackdown against Egypt's Muslim Brotherhood and supporters of ousted President Mohammed Morsi will be making these peaceful protestors into martyrs.

While billions of dollars worth of US military aid returns to American companies scattered throughout the states. These dynamics are very general but specifically hurts US. Furthermore, the Egyptian military believes in their heart of hearts that it's the only institution keeping that nation from spiraling into a calamitous period of instability.

Assistance to the Egyptian military was supposed to maintain its peace treaty with Israel and to help Egypt fight terrorism. However, that military is uninterested in fighting with Israel, and it seems motivated to fight Islamist terrorists, real and imagined.

Finally, it doesn't need American aid to continue down the path it's on.The governments of Kuwait, Saudi Arabia and the United Arab Emirates have pledged billions in aid. Most U.S. allies in the Middle East are quite openly on the side of the military.

This is a serious and growing dilemma and the administration appears to be powerless to resolve it. So what is US going to do? Stay tuned and we may learn more about it in the coming days.
