THE TWELVE DAYS OF GRIDLOCK

Submitted by ub on

On the first day of gridlock, congress said to me.... Obamacare belongs in the bottom of the sea.

No, not again? Starting on October 1, 2013, the US economy could freeze over following a forced government shutdown because of the healthcare overhaul known as Obamacare.

The Republican-led US House of Representatives is about to to pass a bill that would fund government operations but not Obamacare. The president says some House Republicans are risking a US government shutdown.

The possibility of a government shutdown on Oct. 1 continues to grew as the House Republican leadership promises a congressional vote on a bill that would fund government operations beyond Sept. 30, but also not provide funding for President Obama’s health-care law.

The last government shutdowns occurred during the budget battle between the GOP-controlled Congress and Democrat President Bill Clinton during 1995. The federal government was closed for five days in November 1995 and then again between mid-December 1995 and early January 1996.

The next fight over debt limits is also around the corner. All of these continue to have a negative effect on economic growth. It's not only in Afghanistan, Iraq, or possibly Syria... Now it's Washington, DC politicians at war.
