VIOLENCE IN VENEZUELA

Submitted by ub on

Venezuela's opposition leader has been arrested following a series of deadly protests.

Venezuela is faced by economic, social, and political challenges: Inflation is at 56 percent, the currency is rapidly devaluing, shortages of staples like toilet paper and sugar are plaguing the nation, and the murder rate is one of the worst in the world.

The country has erupted into mass chaos as supporters as well as opponents of President Nicolas Maduro fight it out. The Venezuelan government has given US diplomats orders to leave the country. The United States denied as baseless Venezuela's allegations that the diplomats were trying to organize protests.

Leopoldo Lopez has been arrested, but vows to continue to fight and doesn't fear years behind bars if that's what it takes to open eyes to the damage done to Venezuela by 15 years of socialist rule.
