WASHINGTON STATE LANDSLIDE

Hope for survivors of a Washington state landslide dims as the death toll rises as high as 24. Meanwhile rescuers covered in mud continue to search for survivors of a massive landslide in rural Washington state.

While the death toll is expected to increase, the future is bleak as rescue workers continue several days of searching through debris left behind after the landslide in Washington state.

Authorities stressed that they still considered this a rescue effort as well as a recovery, even as they acknowledged the grim reality of the mounting death toll, the long list of people reported missing and the days that have passed since a survivor was found.

Two key numbers are expected to change: The death toll, which is now at over a dozen, while 176 names are still on the list of reported missing, a number which is expected to go decrease.
