WORDS TO THE WISE

Submitted by ub on

The healthcare industry is out of control and each one of us can do our part to reign it in. Reign it in is a metaphor for controlling a horse, which is galloping and can not stop. A short trip to the doctor's office can not only cost plenty of money, but could possibly place us in harms way.

City Island Images not only calls on physicians, pharmacies and health care providers to be more careful in administering medications to patients, but also urges individuals to review each and every medication prescribed to them, their friends, families, or loved ones. Also, please lend your increased support to everyone who wises up and becomes increasingly involved in better self-care.

Nearly,40,000 people in the United States die by suicide each and every year. The recent news concerning suicide should remind all of us that this a permanent solution to a temporary problem. Some have pointed to warnings about chemical imbalance, others to dangerous side effects to some prescribed medications. Whatever the case, this is not an issue to take lightly.

Studies indicate that antidepressants increase the risk of suicidal thoughts and behavior for some individuals. Clinical worsening and risks of suicide apply to patients, who are being treated with antidepressants. These should be monitored closely for worsening, suicide tendencies, or unusual changes in behavior.

Serious consideration should also be given to discontinuing this medication, especially in patients whose depression is persistently worse, or who are experiencing suicidal thoughts, or symptoms that might lead to worsening depression including anxiety, agitation, panic attacks, insomnia, irritability, hostility, aggressiveness, or similar symptoms.
