Reynolds National Center for Business Journalism presents the free, pre-IRE conference workshop, “Breaking Local Stories with Economic Data.” This afternoon training offers techniques for finding and analyzing government data to infuse your local economic reporting. Instructors include USA Today’s Paul Overberg, who is joined by Jeannine Aversa and Thomas Dail from the U.S. Bureau of Economic Analysis. The SPJ Houston Pro Chapter invites you to attend a demonstration of how journalists can benefit from the tools offered by Institute of Truth in Accounting from 6:30-8 p.m. Thursday, June 20, at the University of Houston's Valenti School, Room 144. A representative from the Institute of Truth in Accounting will be on hand to inform local journalists about tools available to help cut down precious research time. The institute has compiled financial statistics from state legislatures and local governments into an easy to use site so journalists can access state and county budgets from a single location.
