Stop trying to pull on the non existent heartstrings of many men, because you're not going to get too far.

A Stanford University study documents an empathy gap with important implications for how fundraisers should make their case to men. Men will be more likely to donate to charitable organizations if they are told what's in it for them.

On the other hand, women are more likely to give to charity, especially poor people. There are a variety of ways to explain these differences, besides the obvious differences in empathy.

SERVICES FOR CHRISTIANS KILLED IN LIBYA

Catholic Cardinal Timothy Dolan, who serves as Archbishop of New York, will be attending a religious prayer service on Staten Island to honor the 21 Egyptian Coptic Christians killed by ISIS in Libya.

These services are sponsored by leaders of the Coptic Orthodox Diocese of New York and New England. The service will take place on Thursday, February 19, 2015 from 7-9PM at the Archangel Michael and St. Mina Coptic Church 4095 Amboy Road. Cardinal Dolan will be arriving, while the prayer service is underway.

NYC Emergency Management issues a cold weather alert for extreme temperatures & subzero wind chills Thursday, February 19, 2015.

High winds are expected to begin tomorrow, with sustained winds of 20- 30 mph and gusts up to 35- 40mph. Temperatures should remain around zero Thursday night, but wind chills will be as low as 15 to 20 degrees below zero.

3 Billion Year Old Earth

Latest assessment suggests life on Earth may have begun 3.2B years ago. University of Washington in USA and University of Johannesburg in South Africa researchers found evidence that life existed on Earth 3.2 billion years ago.

Their findings are based on analysis of rock samples collected in South Africa and northwestern Australia and range in age from 2.75 to 3.2 billion years old.

Lunar New Year is almost here

Lunar New Year is one of the world's most popular cultural events and most certainly in Asia. As a result, cultural gaffes should be avoided to connect with those celebrating this historic event that is no longer just an Asian holiday.

The Year of the Ram, Goat, or Sheep can also be called Asian Lunar New Year, which begins on February 19th as Chinese, Koreans and Vietnamese will be celebrating with families and exchanging red envelopes with money inside.

Maine Lobsters have reportedly become a New Year delicacy for China's rising middle class, according to an AP report from Beijing and Shanghai.

There are lots of American lobster on the menu for Chinese New Year. Exports of U.S. lobster to China have increased, largely to satisfy the appetites of the communist country's growing middle class, to whom a steamed, whole crustacean flown in live from the United States is not just a festive delicacy and a good-luck symbol but also a mark of prosperity.

NYC Lunar New Year

The Lunar New Year begins on Thursday, but celebrations start tonight with a big fireworks show over the Hudson River. The fireworks display will begin to usher in The Year of the Goat, Sheep?

Grucci Fireworks will mark the Year with a 20 minute show is expected to begin at 7:30 p.m.

The fireworks will launch from three barges near the Chinese consulate at 42nd Street and 12th Avenue. Organizers say they expect the display to rival Macy's annual July 4th fireworks show.

An area of low pressure will continue to slide through the Southeast U.S early Tuesday bringing wintry weather to parts of the Mid-South through Mid-Atlantic. The heaviest snow will occur from Kentucky to the Mid-Atlantic where 6-12 inches are possible. Farther south, from Tennessee through North Carolina, ice will be the main threat. Precipitation will end from west to east this Tuesday.
