CHANGING MARS

The National Aeronautics and Space Administration Dawn probe is going into orbit around Ceres, which is the largest object in the Solar System between Mars and Jupiter.

It has taken the satellite over 7 years to reach this destination, and it will spend the next 14 months mapping it. Ceres is the first of the dwarf planets to be visited by a spacecraft.

RECORD BREAKING COLD

We're number one. Brrrr... 1 degree temperatures is now a new record low for the area, which was set this morning. It was 1 degree at 7A and the old record low was 9 degrees, set in 2007.

The record for Saturday is also 9 degrees and tonight's low is expected to be 10, so that record is also in jeopardy. Some schools are closed, others are opening on delayed schedule, citing icy roads and cold temperatures. Yonkers schools are closed today due to road conditions.

RIP EDWARD CARDINAL EGAN

The Catholic Archdiose of New York has announced Edward Cardinal Egan, Archbishop-Emeritus , 12th bishop and 9th archbishop and 7th Cardinal of the See of New York, died today.

The cardinal was pronounced dead at NYU Langone Medical Center at 2:20 pm, cause of death was cardiac arrest. Funeral arrangements are pending.

Cardinal Egan was born on April 2, 1932, in Oak Park, Illinois. His Eminence was ordained a priest for the Archdiocese of Chicago on December 15, 1957.

AIRPORT CLOSED

A Delta airlines plane skidded off a runway and has crash landed, while landing in NYC at LaGuardia Airport, and the jet is up against a fence.

NY /NJ Port Authority says the MD-80 went off the runway at 11:11A, but thankfully NYFD has reported no major injuries. The Delta plane, Flight 1086 from Atlanta to LaGuardia, slid off the left side of the runway according to Federal Aviation Administration. The accident occurred shortly after 11A as the plane crashed through a fence.

COPS GONE WILD?

Americans have witnessed multiple incidents of police officers killing unarmed civilians on both coats of this country and supposedly for various reasons. One of the most recent US incidents occurred in Los Angeles and some wonder if a public safety motto "To Protect and To Serve" needs to be updated.

Another investigation is underway after Los Angeles police fatally shot a homeless man on LA's skid row, during an encounter that was caught on video.

The New York City Office of Emergency Management today issued a hazardous travel advisory for Thursday, March 5, 2015.

The National Weather Service has issued a Winter Storm Warning for all of New York City from 7:00PM Wednesday evening through 7:00PM Thursday evening, March 5, 2015. Rain Wednesday evening will mix with or change to sleet and snow around midnight. The heaviest snow is expected early Thursday morning, with 2 to 4 inches of snow accumulation expected by the Thursday morning rush.

The National Weather Service has issued yet another Winter Storm Warning for NYC from 7:00 PM, March 4th to 7:00 PM, Thursday, March 5th. Our season capacity for snow may soon begin to overflow.

The current forecast calls for 4-8 inches of snow. Visibilities are expected to be approximately one quarter to one half mile at times. A Winter Storm Watch has been issued for Manhattan and The Bronx from 7:00 PM, March 4th to 7:00 PM, Thursday, March 5th. The current forecast calls for 3-6 inches of snow.
