The New York State Department of Environmental Conservation has issued an Air Quality Health Advisory for New York City until 10:00 PM this evening.

Active children and adults, and people with respiratory problems, such as asthma, should reduce prolonged or heavy exertion outdoors.

88 year old Fidel Castro, who is know and the father of the Cuban Revolution continues to hate the US and is the virtual thorn in our back while standing on the political stage for five decades.

Fidel Castro is now comparing NATO to Nazis and still lashes out at the American leadership. He accused our nation and all our allies of igniting conflicts abroad. he also attacked John McCain for backing Israel and accused US of being involved in the creation of ISIS.

FINAL PUBLIC POOL & BEACH DAY

All 14 miles of NYC beaches will close after today. This is is your last chance to enjoy public beaches and outdoor pools before they're closed down for the season.

Lifeguards will be on duty at city beaches from 10 a.m. to 6 p.m. before calling it a summer. Outdoor pools will be open from 11 a.m. to 7 p.m. The last day for pools and beaches this summer also comes on Labor Day.

On this Labor Day, lets all take a moment to remember the workers who fought and died for better treatment , then lets address the largest labor issue facing our country on this holiday, which is the minimum wage. Let us all collectively demand that our Congressional representatives make this a top priority.

The 2008 financial crisis forced our national job market into a financial state of confusion, but some economists believe those days may be behind us.

ORCHARD BEACH INJURIES

A lightning strike at Orchard Beach has injured three people. NYFD says the men were injured at nearby Orchard Beach on Pelham Bay Park in The Bronx this evening as the storms rolled through the area.

The lightning strikes occurred while heavy thunderstorms swept throughout NYC. Torrential rain, thunder and lightning arrived while many were participating in Labor Day weekend celebrations, which postponed U.S. Open tennis tournament in Queens and forced the early end to Electric Music Festival on the East River.

Polish government signs accord with Gdansk shipyard workers. On this day in 1980, representatives of the communist government of Poland agree to the demands of striking shipyard workers in the city of Gdansk. Former electrician Lech Walesa led the striking workers, who went on to form Solidarity, the first independent labor union to develop in a Soviet bloc nation.

Atlanta falls to Union forces. On this day in 1864, Union Army General William Tecumseh Sherman lays siege to Atlanta, Georgia, a critical Confederate hub, shelling civilians and cutting off supply lines. The Confederates retreated, destroying the city's munitions as they went. On November 15 of that year, Sherman's troops burned much of the city before continuing their march through the South. Sherman's Atlanta campaign was one of the most decisive victories of the Civil War.

First ATM opens for business. On this day in 1969, America's first automatic teller machine (ATM) makes its public debut, dispensing cash to customers at Chemical Bank in Rockville Center, New York. ATMs went on to revolutionize the banking industry, eliminating the need to visit a bank to conduct basic financial transactions. By the 1980s, these money machines had become widely popular and handled many of the functions previously performed by human tellers, such as check deposits and money transfers between accounts. Today, ATMs are as indispensable to most people as cell phones and e-mail.
