A few dozen of Carmen Maria Warren Robinson's friends and family members paid their final respects during a long awaited religious service, which was held at Trinity United Methodist Church on City Island. Carmen died two months ago, following a long battle with cancer. RIP: 12/2/50 - 6/11/14

She was an artist and a free soul, who lived her life loving people, animals and mother nature. Carmen's husband Ritch Robinson, Peter Warren and others were invited to speak about Carmen during an open mike format.

The disorganized close combat involving a group of protestor continues as a result of racially charged protests which once again flared overnight in Ferguson, Missouri.

These are eruptions of fresh anger over the fatal Aug. 9 shooting of an unarmed black teenager by local police.
Tensions have been high since police officer Darren Wilson shot Michael Brown, 18, shortly after noon last Saturday as the late teenager and a friend walked down a street that runs through an apartment complex where Brown's grandmother lives.

DEMOCRACY FOR ALL

A constitutional amendment to overturn the Citizens United decision and to restore the principle of one voice, one vote in our electoral process has been introduced.

This Democracy for All Amendment would reverse destructive Supreme Court decisions like Citizens United v. FEC, that have given corporations and the wealthiest donors the right to buy unlimited influence in our elections. Crowley joins Reps. Over 100 members of US Congress support the constitutional amendment.

HEALTHY BRONX RIVER?

NYC Parks will join the NY-NJ Harbor & Estuary Program, the Bronx River Alliance, and representatives from federal, state, city, university and community organizations who are conducting a wide range of research projects along the Bronx River. These planned monitoring efforts are expanding our knowledge of the health of the River, while helping government agencies and the public make decisions about water quality improvements, habitat restoration, and recreational use of this important urban waterway.

AERIAL SPRAYING

Weather permitting, the NYC Department of Health and Mental Hygiene will conduct aerial spraying of mosquito larvicide to help prevent West Nile Virus between 6 AM and 7 PM on Friday, 8/15, and on Monday 8/18 through Tuesday, 8/19.

The spraying will be conducted in parts of the following ZIP codes in The Bronx, Queens, and Staten Island: 10301, 10302, 10303, 10306, 10308, 10309, 10310, 10311, 10314, 10464, and 10475.

In case of inclement weather, the alternate application dates will be Monday, 8/18 through Wednesday, 8/20 during the same time frame.
