CHILDLESS PARENTS / PARENTLESS CHILDREN

Now that Mothers Day is behind US and Fathers Day is approaching, it is fitting that we bring up this problem, which afflicts sons and daughters worldwide, because one is way too many, as far as we're concerned.

It's been years since they last spoke with their parents. They may never speak to them ever again.

There is no other way to say that it is wrong, when a child is estranged from a parent. It's even harder to fathom that they've cut off, or have been eliminated from each others lives.

Bronx Puerto Rican Day Parade

The Bronx 27th Annual Puerto Rican Day Parade and Latino pride was on display Sunday on the Grand Concourse. But Borough President Ruben Diaz Jr. reportedly wanted nothing to do with this historic event.

Was it that he wasn't in the mood to party because The Bronx continues to have the highest unemployment rate compared to any other county in New York, according to local and national data?

City Island Images asked his press secretary and also his communications director if President Diaz Jr. could tell us why and when this disturbing trend will ever end? However, the response we received 20 hours later was we're working hard to change that! No further details from the borough president's office.

Meanwhile, the parade started back in 1987 with around a dozen groups marching that year. Today's event, featured more than one hundred local, national and international organizations, which marched from 190th Street and Grand Concourse to Van Cortlandt Avenue East for a post-parade festival. Here is more from NY1 and News 12 The Bronx.

SUPERSTORM SANDY TAX RELIEF

Submitted by ub on

New York City homeowners hit by Hurricane Sandy are spared a property tax hike under a new legislation which provides relief to residents of NYC subject to higher property taxes as a result of repairs to homes severely damaged by Superstorm Sandy.
The tax break will affect about 1684 buildings, whose owners will save $1077 on average, officials said.

The new legislation was unveiled by both the Mayor and the Governor of New York in April at the 2014 NY Rising Community Reconstruction Spring Conference in Albany.
