Main Meal For New Year

Restaurant

Maine Lobsters have reportedly become a New Year delicacy for China's rising middle class, according to an AP report from Beijing and Shanghai.

There are lots of American lobster on the menu for Chinese New Year. Exports of U.S. lobster to China have increased, largely to satisfy the appetites of the communist country's growing middle class, to whom a steamed, whole crustacean flown in live from the United States is not just a festive delicacy and a good-luck symbol but also a mark of prosperity.

NO RESERVATIONS... BLAME IT ON IRENE

Restaurant

Restaurant owners have no love for Hurricane Irene.Their weekend business is awash, as many customers stay far away as a result of Hurricane Irene's possible dangerous conditions.

City Island, NYC

Restaurant

Put a little spice in your life, with a new years resolution. NYC's best kept secret, but share by telling everyone!

Featuring dozens of places to enjoy some holiday cheer and fine food, City Island was first established as an English settlement in 1685. The English crown granted Thomas Pell ownership of the island and parts of Westchester County, which lasted until 1749, when ownership passed to other individuals.

During the 1700s, many of the island’s residents were either oyster-men or Hellgate pilots who helped navigate ships down the East River to New York Harbor.

SMART SNACKS TIPS

Restaurant

When it comes to eating healthfully, fresh fruits and vegetables are pretty much a slam dunk. Including packaged foods in a healthful diet is trickier. But it isn’t impossible if you learn how to use the Nutrition Facts on the package to judge the quality of the food inside. The vitamin or mineral content is less important as a basis for buying a product unless everything else adds up to a healthy choice.

The new legislation cuts fees and red tape for breweries, wineries, cider makers and distilleries by authorizing wineries to sell their product in growlers.

Control Sodium

Restaurant

You need salt to survive. Your body needs sodium to transmit nerve impulses, contract muscle fibers, and, along with potassium, to balance fluid levels in all your cells.

The body is so good at holding on to this vital mineral that you need to consume only a tiny amount of it each day. Too much sodium sets off a cascade of physiological changes that can raise blood pressure. Over time, uncontrolled high blood pressure can stress the heart and blood vessels, which can lead to stroke or heart attack.
