PORGIES, STRIPED BASS, BLUES, & FLUKE

We had two boats out on the porgy grounds. The 76` ISLAND CURRENT III, had a wonderful turn out of porgy fisherman. The bite was okay as the stern did better than the rest of the boat. The ISLAND CURRENT was chartered out and Capt. Dan reported a steady pick of jumbo porgies.

Capt. Brendan called in to report some nice night striped bass being caught aboard the ISLAND CURRENT II this evening.

How I Enjoy Summer Vacation

It’s summer vacation for educators and that means it is the time when most instructors are writing a bit more often than usual. I’m one of those people that likes to write all year round, but I kick things into high gear during the summertime. The fact that I do not teach in the summer gives me more time to concentrate on what I enjoy.

Over the past year or so, I’ve been slowly developing City Island Images, which is a labor of love and most definitely work in progress. Summertime is the best time to accomplish a lot of writing and it feels good.

Summertime and the living is dangerous, according to officials who are warning New Yorkers that the hot and humid summer weather can cause serious illness and death.

On average, more Americans die from heat waves than all other natural disasters combined. The best way to prevent heat illness is to stay in an air conditioned place. Make sure you are prepared and help family, friends, and neighbors stay cool during a heat wave.

What is Heat Illness?

Heat illness occurs when the body cannot cool down.
The body normally cools itself by sweating and increasing blood flow to the skin.

The suffering of the Syrian people is getting worse amid escalating violence in the country, the head of the United Nations mission there said today, just days after his observers came under direct attack resulting in the suspension of their monitoring activities.

“I made that decision based on the risks on the ground and based on the fact that risks made it extremely difficult to implement mandated tasks,” the head of the UN Supervision Mission in Syria (UNSMIS) and Chief Military Observer, Major-General Robert Mood, told reporters after a closed-door meeting with the Security Council.
