International Women’s Day

Submitted by ub on

Nations with gender equality have greater economic growth. Business with women leaders perform better. Peace agreements drawn up by women are more durable. Legislative assemblies with women enact legislation on important social issues such as health, education, anti-discrimination and child support. Equality for women means progress for everyone.

On this International Women’s Day, let us all reflect on the progress yet to be made for all the women of the world who will continue to play an extraordinary role in the history and well being of our planet.

It was an appropriate method of celebrating International Women's Day, as couple of hundred fans joined ¡Retumba! as they celebrated an amazing 33 years of percussion packed music and dance performance art..

The standing room only crowd, which included several City Islander who came out to support their neighbors happily danced and sang along the lively musical rhythms and this all female performance ensemble, which knows how to entertain and truly engage their audiences.

If there was ever a great reason to invite friends over for an absolutely decadent meal, it’s Fat or Shrove Tuesday, and Pancake Day.

Fat Tuesday is considered to be the traditional name for the day before Ash Wednesday. The first day of Lent is more commonly known as Mardi Gras, which is simply Fat Tuesday in French.

It gets its name from the custom, in many Catholic countries, of marking the day with feasting before the fasting season of Lent begins.
