CITY ISLAND IMAGES CONTINUES TO GROW

Submitted by Admin on

A couple of years ago, it seemed like an excellent opportunity that was too good to pass up. It was the perfect chance for a new online news and information start-up to overshadow an old fashioned and sleepy service that had proven popular across City Island in previous years, but subscriptions had apparently become stagnant and therefore virtually abandoned by publishing old news, only ten times a year and not offering updates online.

CALL HIM POPE PANCHO

Catholic Cardinal Jorge Mario Bergoglio of Argentina was named Pope  last week, as white smoke emerged from the Sistine Chapel indicating that the majority of the 115 Cardinals voting had made their final selection.

Since Hispanics have considerably contributed to the well-being of the world, last week's decision will help put it in a much better historical perspective. Being Hispanic, or Latino is not about coming from one nation, nor only one culture. Instead, Hispanics are greatly diverse people.

ELIMINATING HEADACHES

A headache can put a damper on your day. Tension headaches usually develop in the afternoon, causing mild or moderate pain that may feel like dull tightness or a band of pressure. Tension headaches occur when neck, shoulder, and scalp muscles become tense. Some people experience tension headaches from time to time; others get them more often. While this type of headache is rarely debilitating, it can certainly make life miserable.

If you have frequent tension headaches (more often than once or twice a week), here are some strategies that can help you prevent them:

ARIES (March 21-April 19): Feelings and sexual attractions are intense. Psychic impressions are attention-grabbing. Sparks could fly in a close relationship or in a romance but if there is a storm it should blow over quickly.

TAURUS (April 20-May 20): Changing conditions bring improvement to communications in a friendship, family relationship, marriage or love affair. A personality attribute you once viewed negatively in yourself or someone close to you now looks like a positive.

Oh, no... Not again? If you look carefully at our live camera, you will probably see light snow and some rain is expected later this afternoon, as winter weather refuses to go away quietly.

This weather continues to cling onto life across our area, producing temperatures well below average that may persist through early next week, according to forecasters.

If you are a City Islander, you probably ran across Wayne Cochrane. He was one of our elderly neighbor and a friend. Yo may recall that he enjoyed visiting the Post Office.

He passed away 2/19/2013. At this time his body still lies in the morgue. His friends are taking care of the cat who gave him so much pleasure. Unfortunately, his tiny house caught fire on 12/6/12 and he received second degree burns. Wayne was in the hospital and then rehab. We took him to his various doctor appointments, did shopping for him took care of his basic needs as best we could.

Yesterday's City Island fire underscores the importance of keeping our firehouse open with Engine 70 and Fire Ladder 53. At one time during the late afternoon we had about 125 firefighters and three ladders and three hose working on that blaze, which City Island Images initially reported to our readers in real time and exclusively.

FDNY Ladder 53 is responsible for the search and rescue operations for City Island. Their operations center is located at the Schofield Street station, which also houses Engine 70.

The Pope has now been leading the worlds 1+ billion Catholics for a couple of days and there is talk about future personal and political challenges for this pontiff.

With the historic rise of an Argentine cardinal to the throne of St. Peter, many in his South American nation have started a debate, with one of its own becoming the first Latin American pope. Jorge Mario Bergoglio previous relationship with the Argentine government may underscore his ability and future willingness to continue to butt heads with leaders, whose politics conflict with the Roman Catholic Church.
