450 MILE RELAY

Submitted by ub on

A 450-mile running relay from Concord, Mass. to Arlington, Virginia is underway this Memorial Day Weekend to raise funds for children who've lost a parent in the line of duty.

Donations go to college educations, considered the best gift we can give the children of fallen heroes.

The relay passes through Van Cortlandt Park around 1 pm from Jerome Avenue and reaches Memorial Grove and Broadway around 1:40 pm. Staging information is here: http://www.450forthefallen.org/run.asp

The baton will be passed there and a new leg begun, to end at Columbus Avenue/Central Park 10-12 miles away, passing by many memorials along
the way in commemoration of Memorial Day Weekend.

The group PLANS to arrive by 3:30. From there, the baton will be passed to new sets of runners, and so on, till the relay reaches their ultimate destination: Arlington on Memorial Day

A check may be presented by the President of the Van Cortlandt Park Track Club to relay organizers, with other surprises.

VCTC is supplying about 10 runners for the leg into Manhattan.

The relay organizers in fact have contacted many running clubs and communities all along the route to have them join them, for a donation of $50 per runner, which runners and City Island Images are always glad to support for good causes.

Very exciting stuff - hope to see some of you there!!
