Event: Society of Professional Journalists – Region 1 Conference

The Society of Professional Journalists is holding its Region 1 conference April 25-26 at Boston University, 640 Commonwealth Ave., Boston, Mass. The theme of the 2014 conference is "Byte Back: Doing Great Journalism in the Digital Age" and will feature more than two dozen cutting-edge professional development programs starting Friday afternoon and continuing all day Saturday. Former ABC News anchor Carole Simpson will speak at a catered opening night reception April 25, and Robin Young of NPR will give the keynote speech at a Mark of Excellence awards luncheon April 26, which will feature a performance by the Boston Typewriter Orchestra. There also will be meet ups Thursday, Friday and Saturday nights for networking and fun. Region 1 covers the northeast U.S. and most of Pennsylvania; the conference is open to all. Event: SEJ Annual Awards for Reporting on the Environment – Call for Entries

SEJ's awards honor the best environmental journalism in seven categories, bringing recognition to the most important stories on the planet. Journalism broadcast or published in print or online is eligible. SEJ's 2014 Awards will be presented on Sept. 3, 2014, at SEJ's 24th Annual Conference in New Orleans, Louisiana. $500 will be offered for first-place winners in seven categories.
