Juneteenth recognizes freedom along with the need for true equity for all members of the Black community of the USA.
Freedom arrived on June 19, 1865, when 2K Union troops arrived in Galveston Bay, Texas. The army announced that the more than 250K enslaved black people in the state, were free by executive decree. This day came to be known as "Juneteenth," by the newly freed folks.
Americans should respect initiatives that promote justice and equality. We view diversity, equity, and inclusion as verbs - not nouns - and we recognize that intent must be met with action and impact across our national fabric.
