After announcing that a jailed US military traitor will be released early, US President Obama was asked about his controversial decision to shorten Chelsea Manning's prison sentence during his final press conference today.

The President held his final news conference from The White House this afternoon and explained his decision to commute Chelsea Manning's jail sentence. Mr. Obama explained that Chelsea Manning's prison sentence was disproportionate to other leakers and is comfortable justice has been now served.

During his last clemency push, Obama commuted the Army private after he, who turned she served nearly seven years for stealing and releasing classified military secrets to WikiLeaks.

The move to reduce the original 35-year sentence brought an immediate outrage from GOP leaders on Capitol Hill.

Obama is expected to differentiate Manning's case from that of former National Security Agency contractor Edward Snowden.
