NO TRIPLE CROWN

Submitted by ub on

The horse race was held right here in Elmont, New York but west coast favorite California Chrome lost.
Tonalist won the race and jockey Joel Rosario was congratulated after winning the 146th running of the Belmont Stakes,

We were on the brink of something which has not happened in 36 years. But it was disappointing to watch one of the best Thoroughbreds, which has tried but failed to sweep all three legs.

The 1 ½-mile Belmont Stakes is the longest and steepest challenge in the three race series and California Chrome was not up to the task.

There have only been 11 horses in history which have won the Triple Crown of Thoroughbred Racing since 1919.

Sir Barton became the first. Nineteen others have come close, but lost. Since then, the other winners have been Gallant Fox (1930), Omaha (1935), War Admiral (1937), Whrilaway (1941), Count Fleet (1943), Assault (1946), Citation (1948), Secretariat (1973), Seattle Slew (1977) and Affirmed (1978). On Saturday, June 7, 2014, California Chrome will make an attempt to become the first winner since 1978.
