VETERANS' ADVOCATE

Submitted by ub on

On this Memorial Day, City Island Images wishes to pay special tribute to a local veteran who tirelessly volunteers much of his time to assist The NYC Mayors Office with providing dignified military burials to indigent veterans, who have family members.

James Mullarky serves as NY State Commander of the Catholic War Veterans and as an active veterans advocate, he actively lobbies government officials to fill out the paperwork so that deserving veterans may receive their distinguished service awards, although sometimes posthumously.

The 75 year old US Army veteran served in 82 Airborne, 3rd Ranger Battalion, 77 Special Forces Green Beret also volunteers his extra time at the VA Hospital and assists during regularly scheduled religious services there.

Finally, for fun and relaxation, Mullarkey is currently refurbishing "Good Deal", an old classic yacht that he found nearly abandoned and is painstakingly bringing it back to its seaworthy status. Jim also happens to be transforming the closed down bar at 189 City Island avenue, next door to the US Post Office and across the street from PS 175. He is close to completing his labor of love and plans to open its doors when he completes this magical transformation into an old fashioned ice cream parlor.
