ELECTION DAY ON THE WAY

Submitted by ub on

Plan ahead and vote. Speak up because your ballot is your voice and you must be heard.

Tuesday, November 5 is Election Day. Polls are open for registered voters from 6 AM to 9 PM.

Election Day is a civic holiday in some states, including Delaware, Hawaii, Kentucky, Montana, New Jersey, New York, Ohio, West Virginia, and the territory of Puerto Rico. Some other states require that workers be permitted to take time off from employment without loss of pay. California Elections Code Section 14000 provides that employees otherwise unable to vote must be allowed two hours off with pay, at the beginning or end of a shift.

City government offices and City and State courts are closed. The holiday is optional for State employees. Department of Motor Vehicles and Federal offices are open. There will be mail delivery.

All public schools are closed for students, but open for staff development. Borough Enrollment Offices are closed. All other Department of Education administrative offices are open.

Alternate side parking is suspended. All other regulations, including parking meters, remain in effect.

There is no garbage or recycling collection. If Tuesday is your regular garbage day, put your garbage out after 4 PM Tuesday evening. If Tuesday is your regular recycling day, wait until next week to put your recycling out.
