Malala Yousafzai is a student and education activist from Mingora in the Swat District of Pakistan's Khyber Pakhtunkhwa province. Today, thousands gathered across the world to mark 'Malala Day' as a tribute to this brave schoolgirl shot by Taliban gunman.

This is now one month since 15-year-old education campaigner Malala was shot in the head by a Taliban gunman as she traveled home from school with two classmates in north-west Pakistan.

Malala is now recovering at Queen Elizabeth Hospital in Birmingham after being flown to the UK for treatment a week after the shooting and has become a symbol of courage and received thousands of global goodwill messages.
