Since 1927, TIME has chosen a Peron of The Year. There were 10 finalists this time around, and the winner is Khashoggi and other journalists are 2018 ‘Person of the Year’ This is the first time a murdered journalist is reportedly chosen.

We couldn’t be happier with this year’s choice for Person of the Year. Journalists have given their lives in pursuit of the truth. There are a record number of journallists being held behind bars all over the world. The Committee to Protect Journalists has documented 262 cases in 2017, and with an avalanche of misinformation on social media along with government officials from the dismissing reporting as fake news, Time magazine has chosen a handful of journalists who were targeted for their work.

Last year Time chose "The Silence Breakers," persons who triggered the #MeToo movement against sexual harassment.

TIME has identified the Person of the Year, recognizing the person or group of people who most influenced the news and the world — for better or for worse — during the past year.

In recent years, the shortlist for Person of the Year has included the Silence Breakers of the #MeToo movement, Hillary Clinton, Amazon CEO Jeff Bezos, Chinese President Xi Jinping, Black Lives Matter activists, CRISPR scientists, and Beyoncé.
