Virginia Got To Love 💕 Her

Submitted by ub on

They say Virginia is for lovers, but the Commonwealth is developing into a state of political chaos. Poll: Northam has majority African American support amid blackface scandal and Lt. Governor is denying sexual assault allegations.

Meanwhile, there is one Virginia I am sending my love 😍 to as we approach Valentines and also prepare to celebrate her birthday.

90+-year-old Ginger or Ginny as I like to call her may no longer be a dear neighbor, but she has not been forgotten by #MusselSuckers and #ClamDiggers alike, who will continue to admire Virginia albeit from a distance.

After asking a couple of people who could possibly know her exact whereabouts, no specific location has surfaced. I can only say that she is living at a senior care facility in Pennsylvania next to her aging brother. I finally spoke with her niece Rose, who says she is in fine health, in great spirits, and in a good place.

Happy Valentines and Happy Birthday Virginia Gallagher. She is not only well known for her dedication to City Island. The Long Island native moved to City Island in the Bronx more than 45 years ago with her late husband, Jack.

Ms. Gallagher graduated from Pace University and Cornell University and was first employed by the New York Daily News, where we first met, while she was serving as the first affirmative action officer.

Ginger became active in the City Island community as a founding member of the City Island Community Center and the City Island Volunteer Ambulance Corps. She was elected president of the Civic Association from 1962 to 1981, lobbying NYC to build a new school on the former site of Nevins Shipyard. Public School 175 opened its doors in 1975.

Ginny's involvement in The island only senior center Pilot Cove Manor. In 1979 she took over the Presidency until her 10/2004 early retirement http://www.theislandcurrent.com/Island_Currents/12f-Is.%20Current%20Nov…

Virginia claims that February 29, is her birthday but since it is also a leap year day, and divisible by 4, such as 2012, 2016, 2020, 2024, and 2028, let's celebrate the grand dame of the Island on Valentines Day.

Happy Valentines and Birthday, Ginny 😍 https://youtu.be/uMPDgf81ik4
