Wolf Moon

Submitted by ub on

This is not only the first full moon of 2020, it is also a wolf moon shining on Friday.

The name wolf came about because wolves were more often heard during this time, according to the Old Farmer’s Almanac.

Other nicknames include the cold moon, the old moon, and the great spirit moon. At the same time, a penumbral lunar eclipse will be visible in some parts of the world.

Not as spectacular as a total lunar eclipse, a penumbral lunar eclipse occurs when the moon moves through the outer part of Earth's shadow known as the penumbra. www.EarthSky.org

A January Full Moon is often called the Wolf Moon, Old Moon, Ice Moon, and Snow Moon. The Wolf Moon is a Native American name, other sources claim that it has Anglo-Saxon origins.

This one will be the first of 13 full moons for the year 2020. https://www.wbtw.com/news/wolf-moon-the-first-full-moon-of-2020-makes-i…
